North Attleboro Fire Department Invites Community Members to Station Open House
NORTH ATTLEBORO — Chief Christopher Coleman would like to invite community members to attend the North Attleboro Fire Department's upcoming open house.
WHEN: Monday, Oct. 16 from 4-7 p.m.
WHERE: North Attleboro Fire Headquarters, 50 Elm St.
WHAT: In the week following Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 8-14), the North Attleboro Fire Department will host an open house as part of its efforts to support this year's campaign: "Cooking safety starts with you. Pay attention to fire prevention."
During the open house, families will have the opportunity to visit five interactive stations at the headquarters. There will be a touch-a-truck outside, and a water-flowing station where attendees will be assisted by firefighters in using fire hoses to spray a fake house. A smoke trailer will also be present and attendees will be able to enter and navigate their way out on their hands and knees. Inside the headquarters, there will be pizza, coloring materials and cooking safety handouts available. In addition to the family activities, station tours will be conducted every 15 minutes. Event parking will be available in the Tower Square parking lot, 500 East Washington St.
The North Attleboro Fire Department offers these key safety tips to help reduce the risk of a cooking fire:
- Watch what you heat. Always keep a close eye on what you are cooking. Set a timer to remind you that you are cooking.
- Turn pot handles toward the back of the stove. Always keep a lid nearby when cooking. If a small grease fire starts, slide the lid over the pan and turn off the burner.
- Have a "kid- and pet-free zone" of at least 3 feet around the stove or grill and anywhere else hot food or drink is prepared or carried.
