Mrs. Varr and Mrs. Sullivan
Welcome to Mrs. Varr and Mrs. Sullivan's 2nd Grade Class!
We want to thank all of the parents who joined us for parent/teacher conferences last week. We hope that you found these meetings informative and helpful as we enter the last trimester of the school year. For the week of March 25th, please focus on the week 24 spelling words and vocabulary words. In Fundations/spelling, we will have a review week of many of this year's trick words. Our Making Meaning program has been focusing on insects including butterflies and spiders. We have incorporated this into our writing as well. Students will be completing their butterfly writing this week. In math, we will be finishing up Unit 7 focusing on measurement and taking our Unit 7 assessment at the end of the week. You may refer to the Unit 7 Everyday Math Family Letter for further support in this area. In science, we are continuing our study of the everchanging earth. Students will be reviewing how earthquakes, volcanoes, weathering, and erosion change the earth. Students will also be learning how to prevent erosion. Starting this week, the expectation will be that students complete reading at home on Monday through Thursday nights and then return reading logs on Fridays. We are hopeful that this will encourage more students to read at home. Finally, our school is completing an iXL challenge. Please continue to encourage your children to log on to the iXL website to practice their skills in English Language Arts and math. If we achieve our goal of 120,000 questions answered by April vacation, a special reward will be provided to the students. Please feel free to call or email us at any time and we will respond as soon as possible. Have a great week!
