Mrs. Varr and Mrs. Sullivan
Welcome to Mrs. Varr and Mrs. Sullivan's 2nd Grade Class!
First, we want to thank all parents for signing and returning the permission forms for our field trip so quickly. Please know that if you volunteered to chaperone, we will be in touch soon regarding further details. Also, please remember that Monday, May 20th is an early dismissal for students and afternoon professional development for teachers. Students will be dismissed at 11:30 on Monday. For the week of May 20th, please focus on the week 31 spelling words and vocabulary words. In Fundations/spelling, we will continue learning about vowel digraphs and D-syllables. This week's words will contain the vowel digraphs/dipthongs -ou, -oo, -ue, and -ew. In our Making Meaning reading comprehension program, students will continue learning about expository nonfiction text. This week's focus will continue to be on recognizing and identifying text features within articles. In writing, the students will continue working on their written composition about their favorite Community School helper. In math, we will be finishing up in Unit 9 which focuses on trade first subtraction and the beginnings of multipication. You may refer to the Unit 9 Everyday Math Family Letter for further support in this area. In science, we are continuing our unit on living organisms. This week, students will begin our study of animals. Finally, in social studies, the students will be learning more about each individual continent and marking famous landforms on a map of each continent. Please remember to have your child read at home each night and return their reading log on Fridays. Also, please encourage your children to continue working on iXL at home as we are working on our newest school challenge! Please feel free to call or email us at any time and we will respond as soon as possible. Have a great week!
