• Welcome

    Dear 5th Grade Families,

Welcome back for another exciting school year.  I hope you have enjoyed summer break as much as I have.  Most of the students have seen me around last year teaching 5th grade and there are a few that are coming from another school and have no idea who I am (that will be changing quickly, once they are “my kids” they will always be “my kids”)! I am looking forward to getting to know all of the students (and parents) during this school year at Amvet Boulevard School.

I have been a part of the Amvet community since 2003, when my oldest daughter entered kindergarten.  She is now entering her third year of college at Quinnipiac University (gulp)!!  My other daughter is entering her second year at Villanova University and my youngest daughter is going to be a junior at North Attleboro High School.  Some of my favorite activities I have participated in as a parent have been being a part of the Walking Club, 5th grade PTO Parent Coordinator, Mother/Daughter Event Planner, Library Volunteer and most recently I was known as the “BoxTops Lady” (yes, I will be bugging you to save your Box Tops, all year long).  I am looking forward to a year filled with exciting learning experiences.  Our year will be challenging, but it will also be fun.  Your fifth grader should be prepared to think deeply, work thoroughly, and laugh a lot!  My goal is to make a positive growing environment by working as a team: Teacher-Parent-Child.  Communication, consistency, and positive reinforcement will be the key to success for your child.

I look forward to meeting you all and getting to know you.  I encourage you to send a note, or call me through the main office at 508-643-2155 with any questions or concerns you may have.  You may also email me at aobrien@naschools.net (No apostrophe).  I do check my email frequently every day.  I believe a successful classroom is one where teachers and parents touch base often and communicate their ideas and concerns.  As always, all information is received with confidence and privacy.  Your child’s education is of the utmost importance to me, as I know it is to you.  I will be sending frequent emails about upcoming events and /or important information regarding your child’s classroom.  Please check out my classroom page on the naschools.net website.  I will be updating it frequently. Attached is a supply list for the upcoming year. Please let me know if I can help in any way to have these supplies for your child in the class.

Enjoy your last few days of summer vacation and I’ll see you soon!

    Sincerely,

    Alison O’Brien
