If your child is absent, he/she is expected to make up missed work. Work will be compiled throughout the day by a classmate with reading and worksheets and videos. For each day that a student is absent, they will have that many days to make-up the work. Please try to plan vacations around school vacations. It is stressful for the children to try to catch up after a week of absence!
Students are asked to read daily for at least 20 minutes.
In addition, students are asked to practice math facts Monday through Thursday on the Xtramath.org website. Instructions will be coming home about how to access this website. I recommend bookmarking frequently used websites on your computer for quick and easy access.
Math homework and vocabulary/root word practice are also assigned nightly. Vocabulary or Root Word tests will be given every Friday.
Class Dojo (Behavior Managment and Communication)--
I ask that all parents sign up for Class Dojo, a free app for your phone or website you can visit. A notice with instructions will be going home! Students earn points for positive behaviors that helps them earn rewards of their choice. I will also take points away for negative behaviors, including missing homework. I plan to use Dojo as a means of communicating with parents about what we are doing in the classroom and giving friendly reminders about upcoming events, tests, and projects. It is a bit like Facebook!
