Fossils of North Attleborough

Our "Big Dig" Project

 

Students participated in a hands-on activity oriented study of fossils.  Characteristically, the class worked as a cohesive group with students performing a wide array of tasks in small or large groups and at times worked independently.

Although the hands-on nature of the fieldwork was engaging, the students spent even more time developing the project with computer technology.  Every aspect of the project involved the daily use of these technologies (digital camera, computers, scanners, and color printers).  This created a problem because our classroom is not equipped with a computer, scanner, or printer, and it was always difficult to obtain adequate access to these items.  The class had to rely heavily on the teacher's personal laptop computer to keep the project viable.  To overcome this roadblock, computers, scanners, printers, the mobile computer, an Infocus projector, and other technologies were "borrowed" from the high school computer laboratory (limited access), the art room, the middle school, and at times, the elementary school.   Nevertheless, in spite of all these barriers the class did manage to develop a model PowerPoint teaching unit.
