Dear Parents and/or Guardians: It is hard to believe that almost six months have passed since I stepped into the role of Director of Special Education. There has been a lot to learn and I am so thankful to all of our staff and families for their kindness along the way. I have had the pleasure of continuing to work with many of the families that I got to know over the past seven years and I look forward to meeting many more of you. In an effort to do so, I would ask you to join me on Wednesday, January 23rd at 7:15 p.m. at the John Woodcock Administration Building, as I will be presenting, “Understanding the Special Education Process.” The Department of Education has informed me that the Parent’s Notice of Procedural Rights will be revised and available in January. I am hoping to mail you a copy prior to January 23rd so you have a chance to review. I look forward to continuing our long-standing tradition of working together to make the best decisions for your child. Wishing you and your families the most joyous of holiday seasons. See you in 2008!
Respectfully, Dear Parents and/or Guardians: As I sit down to write this letter I am looking out at the first snowflakes of the year and realize that it is time to send out the "Winter Transportation Letter." At this time I would like to review the process should we need to close or delay school due to inclement weather. For those of you who have been with us for a while there are few changes as the system that has been in place over the past several years has worked well. You know the saying, "If it isn't broken, don't try to fix it!" 1. First and foremost, if school is cancelled in North Attleborough that means a decision has been made that the roads are unsafe for travel. Therefore, we will not transport to any out-of-district program. To find out if school is cancelled in North Attleborough you can listen to WBZ, watch Channel 4 or check the North Attleborough Schools' web page at www.naschools.net. 2. In the event that the Superintendent delays the start of the school day, then we will follow the delay schedule as well. For example; if North Attleborough has a one hour delay then you can expect your child to be picked up one hour later than usual. 3. If school is cancelled in any town where we transport students then we will not provide transportation to the out-of-district program. It will be important that you listen to WBZ or Channel 4 for school cancellations. 4. In the event that a storm begins early in the school day and is severe in nature, I will work with local officials to make the determination if a bus should be sent to a program for your child. Both you and appropriate personnel at the program will be notified that a driver is en route for early dismissal. Currently, we are in the process of updated our emergency information. If there have been any changes to your home, work or cell phone numbers please call Michelle in the Special Education Office (508-643-2160) and let her know as soon as possible. Let's keep our fingers crossed that we have a mild winter with few snow days or delays. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. Respectfully, |
