This Topic spotlight wouldn’t be complete without some good SF/Fantasy web sites.  The following were mentioned in the magazine Booklist and represent sites on classics such as War of the Worlds, Lord of the Rings, and Harry Potter.

2001:  Destination Space

This web site compares “the science and technology found in the film 2001:A Space Odyssey and the art work of Robert McCall to real science and technology today.”  You can listen to interviews with scientists and check out  “ Fiction and Fact” on science fiction movies.

Beyond the Movie: Lord of the Rings

http://www.nationalgeographic.com/ngbeyond/

The real world was the inspiration for the Lord of the Rings.  Discover the secrets of creativity by reading about Tolkein and his trip to Finland.  There are some great film clips too.

  Harry Potter

http://www.scholastic.com/harrypotter/home.asp

Visit this web site and you’ll find information about the books, a “need-to-know” guide, a discussion chamber, a wizard challenge and fun stuff.  For the die-hard Harry Potter fan, you can even get a free updated screen saver.

War of the Worlds

http://www.war-of-the-worlds.org/

Aliens, invasions, and space technology are all on this site.  Plus, you can link to broadcasts, movies, games and the “Downloads” portion includes video and audio clips.
