 NEW Science Fiction
 and Fantasy Books

Ms. O’Brien is teaching a new elective this fall, Science Fiction and Fantasy.  Some of her students are very excited to actually have a class about their favorite type of reading.  The Media Center also has several NEW science fiction and fantasy books on display.  Science fiction and fantasy books are often “lumped” together.  Have you ever wondered what the difference is between the two?

Well, according to an avid reader of both science fiction AND fantasy, science fiction is usually set in a futuristic world, has technical information, for example the chaos theory or genetics information and sometimes makes a commentary on “where we are going.”  Fantasy, on the other hand, usually has magic, a “quest” involving the battle of good against evil takes place, and outrageous creatures often appear on the scene.  There are always exceptions to all definitions and some books are science fantasy or have a little of each. Perhaps more importantly, do you like to read it or not.

If you do, or you think you might give these types of books a try, stop by the media center, see what the dragon is reading, take a book from the display and check it out.  Let us know how you liked it.  We are always looking for feedback from readers.
