Criteria for Withdrawing Library Materials

In order to keep the collection up-to-date and in good condition, library materials will be withdrawn by the library media specialist on a regular basis.  The withdrawal of library materials facilitates the learning process by preventing misinformation found in dated materials from being used by students.  To inspire students’ respect for materials and to encourage their use, only those in good condition will remain on the shelves.

Reasons for withdrawing materials

  1. Curriculum changes
  2. Multiple copies
  3. Inaccurate or out dated information
  4. Unattractive, dated or seldom circulating recreational reading materials
  5. Worn, damaged, or physically deteriorated materials
  6. Materials superseded by newer editions or items
