Book Talk Tips

  •         First and most important……make sure you like the book you choose. You want to be excited enough about the book to share it with others.  If you don’t like your book after the first fifty pages, GET A NEW BOOK.  Your enthusiasm (or lack of it) will be obvious when you deliver your talk.

  •         As you read, mark passages with a Post-it note that are especially powerful, funny, dramatic, well written, or descriptive.  You may want to read or quote one of them for your book talk and marking passages will save you time and aggravation when it comes to preparing for your book talk.

  •         While reading, jot down general plot information.  Keep in mind that you want to tell just enough of the plot to create interest without revealing everything.  This is NOT a book report.

  •         Give yourself enough time to finish your book well before the book talk is scheduled.  It helps to have time to just think about the book before beginning to work your talk.
