Historical Fiction Book Talks

How can you tell if it’s good historical fiction?

1.      Is it historically accurate?

2.     Is the historical period vital to the telling of the story?

3.     Is there a strong sense of time and place?

4.     Does the author use good dialogue?

5.     Are the characters realistic?

6.     Is the plot exciting?

 

 

As you prepare your talk….

1.       Remember this is NOT a book report.

2.     Begin with a good attention getter (hook).

3.     Evaluate the historical accuracy of the book.

a.      What period is it?

b.     What book, website, or source did you use to verify the accuracy?

c.      Compare the novel with the non-fiction text.

4.     Practice, Practice, Practice.
