High School Guidance Office Seniors:

Attention seniors. All seniors are responsible for monitoring their academic progress and completing graduation requirements on time. Seniors are reminded that colleges will receive a final copy of their transcripts and all colleges reserve the right to rescind an acceptance based on this final transcript. Students, particularly seniors, planning to enter the work force immediately after graduation should consult with our school to career counselor to pursue possible internships and employment opportunities. All seniors should consult the Junior Handbook given to them in their junior year. The Handbook contains valuable information for all students relevant to graduation plans.

Group Guidance All seniors participate in a mini nine-week class, which will focus on college and career planning.

Applications: Seniors planning to attend college after graduation should be completing their college visits, finalizing decisions as to where they will apply, and obtaining and completing all college applications. Additionally, college bound seniors should be completing colleges essays, arranging college interviews, and requesting letters of recommendations from teachers. Colleges have deadlines for submitting applications and many are as early as January 1. Financial Aid: See your guidance counselor. Students contemplating applying for financial aid will need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). FAFSA forms can be picked up after Thanksgiving in the Guidance Office. Please be sure to consult with the colleges to be sure your FAFSA is mailed in on time. In addition to the FAFSA, some private colleges require the CSS PROFILE form. This can be done as early as September and can be picked up in the Guidance Office. We encourage students to check postings in their homerooms for listings of scholarships.

COLLEGE FAIRS/MINI - FAIRS

A series of mini college fairs is scheduled for five consecutive Thursday's this fall in the N.A.H.S. cafeteria from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.

Juniors:

In the third quarter of their junior year, all juniors complete a mini nine-week class called Junior Group Guidance. Career planning is the primary focus and the college search and application process is introduced.

All juniors should visit the Career Center located off the Guidance Office. We encourage all students to take advantage of our school to career counselor located in the career center. Juniors should continue to use the Bridges Educational software available to them in the writing lab, the library, and in the career center. Our Career Center offers a number of resources intended for use by all our students. Students interested in pursuing training in a trade will find valuable resources available in our career center.

ALL JUNIORS ARE ENCOURAGED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THEIR COUNSELORS IF AND WHEN QUESTIONS ARISE.

In February, all students will begin the course selection process for the following year. Counselors will meet with all students to review graduation requirements and the process of selecting appropriate classes.

Sophomores

Any college bound sophomore should consider taking the PSAT, which will be offered in October here at North Attleboro High School. Students should sign up in the Guidance office. To learn more about the PSAT, please visit the www.collegeboard.org website.

Freshman Year

All counselors meet with the incoming freshman class to introduce the students to the staff and support services the Guidance Department offers (School to Career Counselor and Adjustment Counselors).

Students are given a list of school activities/clubs/athletics and contacts for each discipline.

A list of local businesses, which have had volunteer positions in the past, is distributed to each freshman.

Counselors complete a Self- Directed Search with each student. This search helps students start looking at a wide range of career paths.

Students are encouraged to share the results of their search with their teachers, parents, and counselors.

Counselors work with the freshman to help set-up a four-year education plan.
